Aizawl: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh has inaugurated 27 fisheries projects valued at Rs 32.15 crore across seven northeastern states. The launch took place during the North Eastern States Regional Review Meeting held in Aizawl, Mizoram, on Monday.

These initiatives fall under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund. The primary goal is to bolster regional infrastructure, encourage aquaculture growth, increase value addition, and create new livelihood opportunities for fish farmers. Minister of State George Kurian joined officials and state representatives to discuss strategies for improving productivity and technology adoption throughout the region.

During the meeting, officials emphasized the need for close coordination between the central and state governments to ensure the timely execution of these development schemes. The focus remains on sustainable growth, nutritional security, and the long-term economic empowerment of the local workforce.

The government also outlined plans for the next phase of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. Key priorities include improving access to quality seeds, diversifying species, and developing reservoir-based fisheries. Authorities also intend to leverage the National Fisheries Digital Platform to digitize the sector, making it easier for entrepreneurs and farmers to access essential support and resources.
