Aizawl: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh stated on May 26 that the northeastern region holds vast, untapped potential for fisheries development. During a visit to state-run fishery farms in Lengpui near Aizawl, the minister emphasized the central government's dedication to strengthening this industry and improving the livelihoods of local farmers.

While addressing fish farmers, Singh highlighted that although India already ranks as a global leader in fish production, the northeastern states possess significant room for expansion. He encouraged farmers in Mizoram to utilize the state's natural resources effectively to boost overall output. To support these efforts, the minister distributed fish seeds to local farmers during his tour.

The central government has launched various initiatives designed to increase production and support the agricultural community across the nation. Singh affirmed that the Centre remains fully committed to providing the resources and backing necessary for the sector to thrive in Mizoram and the surrounding region. He was joined by several officials, including SP Singh Baghel, George Kurian, and Lalthansanga, to review ongoing fisheries projects in the state.
