Imphal: Two civilians were killed and two others injured after an armed group attacked Kultuh village in Manipur’s Kamjong district early Thursday morning. The incident, which occurred around 4 AM, resulted in the destruction of seven homes and the local village church by fire.

The Eastern Kuki Chiefs’ Association (EKCA) identified the deceased as Letminlun Haokip, the Head Deacon of Kultuh Church, and Lunminthang Haokip, the church’s Youth Chairman. Both men were recognized as respected community leaders involved in social and religious service. The two injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment.

The EKCA has publicly blamed cadres from the NSCN (Eastern Flank) and the Shanni National Army for the violence, labeling the group as Tangkhul Narco Terrorists. These specific allegations regarding the perpetrators remain unverified by independent sources.

In a formal statement condemning the violence as a violation of human rights and community safety, the association expressed its outrage at the destruction of a place of worship. “The deliberate targeting of civilians and the destruction of a church are unacceptable acts that deserve the strongest condemnation from all peace-loving people,” the group stated.

The organization has called on security agencies and local authorities to launch an immediate investigation into the attack. They are also urging officials to bolster security measures in vulnerable areas to protect residents and prevent further escalations of violence in the region.
