Imphal: Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, is calling for a prompt and impartial investigation into the deaths of six Naga civilians in Manipur. Gogoi, who also serves as the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, issued his demand on June 11 following the discovery of the victims' remains.

Manipur Police recovered the bodies one day after they were identified as missing men held hostage by armed groups in the Kangpokpi district. This grim discovery followed the release of 14 Kuki individuals who had been abducted in Senapati district nearly a month prior.

Reflecting on the state's persistent unrest, Gogoi stated that the ongoing violence has left communities living in constant fear. Regarding the recent tragedy, he said, "The brutal killing of six Naga civilians in Manipur is a deeply distressing tragedy. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims as they cope with this immense loss."

Gogoi highlighted that the state has struggled with instability for over three years. He emphasized that the authorities must identify the perpetrators and ensure they face legal consequences to address the urgent need for accountability and lasting peace in the region.
