Imphal: Violence erupted in Manipur's Kamjong district on Thursday morning, resulting in the deaths of two members of the Kuki community and the destruction of nearly 10 homes. The attack took place at approximately 4:30 am in Kultuk Kuki village, located about 30 kilometres from the Kamjong district headquarters. Among the victims was a local church official.

Security forces and state police arrived at the site shortly after the incident to launch operations and prevent further unrest. Authorities have since deployed additional personnel to the area to monitor the fragile security situation.

This latest outbreak follows a 24-hour shutdown organized by the United Naga Council (UNC) across Naga-inhabited regions. The protest began on June 11 to condemn the murder of six Naga men who were abducted on May 13. The council expressed its outrage, stating the killings were "inhumane and a grave violation of human rights."

The UNC is currently demanding the termination of the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militant groups. Furthermore, the organization has called for the Kuki National Front-President to be labeled a terrorist entity and requested the removal of Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen over alleged links to the organization.
