Imphal: Armed assailants attacked Kultuh village in Manipur's Kamjong district early on June 11, leaving two residents dead and two others wounded. Police reported that the attackers arrived around 4:30 am armed with sophisticated firearms and opened indiscriminate fire on the village.
The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Letminlun Haokipop and 23-year-old Lunminthang Haokipop. Two other villagers, Jangkhomang and Kamminlal, were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. The assault also resulted in significant destruction, with police confirming that at least seven houses were set on fire during the incident.
Authorities have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act for charges including murder, arson, and rioting. While the attackers remain at large, officials have launched a search operation in the area. Additional security forces were deployed to the district to stabilize the region, as police continue to investigate the motive behind the assault.
This violent event follows rising regional tensions after the recent discovery of six mutilated bodies. Local sources described the victims as "active members of the community" while security agencies work to restore order in a state that has seen repeated bouts of unrest.
