Agartala: Tripura is set to establish its first government Ayurvedic medical college and hospital in the Gomati district. The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, operating under the Union Ministry of AYUSH, recently approved the state government's proposal to build the facility in Udaipur.

Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the development on social media this Friday. He expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I am delighted to share that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has accepted our application for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur with an intake capacity of 60 seats from the academic session 2026-27."

The formal acceptance letter, issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board on June 18, confirms that the institution will be located in Tepania. This project follows an application submitted by the Health and Family Welfare Department in December 2025. The college will offer a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery course with an annual capacity of 60 students once the academic session begins.

The commission noted that this approval is contingent upon the state meeting all prescribed statutory requirements and regulations. Chief Minister Saha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support in enhancing medical infrastructure across the state. The new institution is expected to significantly bolster the reach of Ayurvedic education and specialized healthcare services for residents of Tripura.
