Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha sent 600 premium Kew pineapples to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday. The delivery crossed the Akhaura Integrated Check Post. It serves as a goodwill gesture following a recent gift of mangoes from the Bangladesh government. State officials intend to boost the profile of local produce in the neighboring country.
The shipment included 100 cartons. Each box held six pineapples. Every fruit weighed about 780 grams. Agriculture Secretary Apurba Kumar Roy stated the exchange reinforces long-standing ties between the two neighbors. The state prioritized this specific fruit after the Queen pineapple season ended in July.
"In response to the Bangladesh prime minister’s gift of delicious mangoes to our chief minister, we have sent 100 packets of Kew variety pineapples, containing over 600 fruits, to the prime minister and the people of Bangladesh through the Akhaura Integrated Checkpost," said Roy.
Several officials managed the handover at the border. Participants included Agriculture Director Dr. Phanibhushan Jamatia, consultant Dr. Rajib Ghosh, Santanu Debbarma, and Land Port Authority representative Debashish Majumdar. Representing the Indian Assistant High Commission in Chattogram were Assistant Consular Officer Pankajjyoti Das and official Sajib Chakraborty. The fruit arrived at the zero point, passed customs, and moved to a Bangladeshi vehicle for final delivery.
