Tripura Scholar Naresh Chandra Debbarma Receives Padma Shri

Agartala: President Droupadi Murmu presented the Padma Shri to Naresh Chandra Debbarma in New Delhi on Tuesday. The veteran scholar earned the top civilian honor for his work to protect Kokborok language and indigenous heritage.

Debbarma spent decades pushing for the growth of local literature and education. His efforts helped solidify the linguistic roots of indigenous communities across Tripura. He is a primary figure in the field.

State leaders and authors celebrated the news. Chief Minister Manik Saha praised the scholar for his impact on the region. Saha stated, "The honour reflects Debbarma's lifelong dedication to the growth and preservation of Kokborok language and culture."
