Agartala: Tripura is not facing a drought. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath confirmed the state dodged the bullet after receiving over 1,000 mm of rain during the current monsoon season. He shared the news after a video conference with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The central government is keeping a close watch on national agriculture due to potential El Nino weather shifts. While India holds enough food, officials remain wary of spotty rainfall across the country. Nath stated: "The northeastern region, including Tripura, is expected to receive normal to above-normal monsoon rainfall."
Rain keeps falling. The local Agriculture Department is already bracing for the Kharif season to ensure crops like paddy, pulses, and oilseeds survive. They are stocking up on high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and equipment. Teams are also setting up irrigation backups.
Staff are pushing cluster-based farming to squeeze more efficiency out of the land. Nath says the department is staying sharp. They plan to tackle any weather curveballs to keep the harvest numbers high.
