Agartala: Kishor Barman met with West Bengal Higher Education Minister Jagannath Chatterjee at Bikash Bhavan in Kolkata to fix a major technical education headache. Students from Tripura Women’s Polytechnic faced a wall during recent admissions. Even after passing the WBJELET exam, they found top textile engineering schools in Serampore and Berhampore missing from their online application lists.

This exclusion locked eligible students out of the process entirely. Tripura officials previously flagged the problem to the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board in late 2025 but saw no progress. Barman pressed the issue, reminding the minister that Tripura students historically held reserved seats in these institutions.

"The proposal to revive reserved seats for Tripura students in government engineering and technology institutions of West Bengal would be examined on priority," Chatterjee said after hearing the concerns. He promised to tackle the current academic year's hurdles quickly. Both states hope this push strengthens educational ties and opens doors for students across the North-East.
