Agartala: Tripura is building a bone marrow transplant unit at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre in Agartala. Health Secretary Kiran Gitte confirmed the project during an inspection of the facility on June 23.

Chief Minister Manik Saha ordered the quick rollout of the new unit. Officials are scrambling to finish the work. "The Chief Minister has instructed us to start the Bone Marrow Transplant ward as soon as possible, and officials are actively working on the matter," Gitte told reporters.

Gitte reviewed medical gear and laboratory setups to ensure equipment stays in working order. He plans to add ICU services at the cancer centre shortly. The government is also hiring more staff and fixing infrastructure to keep the site running without constant breakdowns.

Cancer care is expanding outside the capital. The state set up day-care services in three districts to help patients get treatment near their homes. Doctors from the regional centre will visit these district clinics to train local staff. New night shelters at GB Pant Hospital will also open soon to house patients and their families.
