Agartala: Tripura is opening a new civil hospital in Agartala to stop the overcrowding at the state's main referral centers. Chief Minister Manik Saha plans to cut the ribbon on the facility within days. It aims to take the pressure off GBP Hospital and IGM Hospital so those sites can handle complex, specialized cases.

Health Secretary Kiran Gitte says the 50-bed site is ready for business. It will serve people living inside the Agartala Municipal Corporation zone. The state has already moved 60 medical officers and staff to the new location. Workers are now finishing up the oxygen plant and power backup systems.

Gitte explained the goal is simple. "Residents seeking routine and primary medical care will be able to access services closer to home," he said. The government recently banned doctors at GBP and AGMC from running private practices, pushing the medical team to focus entirely on public care.
