Agartala: A newly constructed shelter opposite GBP Hospital in Agartala moved a step closer to opening after senior officials from the Urban Development Department, Agartala Municipal Corporation and the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission inspected the facility on Monday.

Urban Development Department Secretary Dr. Milind Ramteke, AMC Commissioner Saju Vaheed A, TULM State Mission Director Tarit Kanti Chakma and Chief Engineer Mihir Kanti Gope toured the building, checked the facilities available for residents and reviewed how the shelter will be managed once it becomes operational. The team also discussed maintenance plans and day to day administration.

The shelter has been built under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana, National Urban Livelihoods Mission, with the aim of providing temporary accommodation for homeless people in urban areas in a safe and dignified setting.

During the visit, officials stressed that regular upkeep, effective supervision and proper administration would determine the quality of services delivered to beneficiaries. With construction complete and the facility ready for use, the government expects the shelter to strengthen support for vulnerable residents in Agartala.
