Agartala: Tripura health officials launched a statewide Pulse Polio drive on Sunday, June 28. The campaign aims to vaccinate 3.34 lakh children under the age of five. Officials set up 3,340 booths to handle the massive operation.

The Health Department deployed 13,360 workers and 672 supervisors to manage the effort. Director of Health Services Debasri Debbarma explained that poliomyelitis hits the nervous system and causes paralysis. The virus thrives in contaminated food and water.

India earned its polio-free label from the World Health Organization in 2014. Health experts warn that vigilance is still necessary because the virus remains active in other nations. Debasri Debbarma said, "Sustained vaccination efforts are crucial to protecting children and maintaining the country's polio-free status."

The state launch took place at the West Bhubanban Primary Health Centre. Shovik Debbarma, from the State Health and Family Welfare Society, called for strong community support to get the job done. Every eligible child must get the oral dose.
