Agartala: Surrendered militants in Tripura scrubbed plans for an indefinite road and rail blockade on Wednesday. The move came after state officials promised to review demands for better rehabilitation packages and the clearing of old criminal cases. Traffic on the national highway and rail lines returned to normal without a hitch.

The Joint Action Rehabilitation Committee and the Joint Action Committee led the agitation. These groups represent thousands of former fighters who abandoned arms for mainstream life. Police spokesperson Rajdeep Deb confirmed that transit remained smooth throughout the day.

Convener Jibanjoy Reang said about 15,000 militants have surrendered since 1978. Many are still waiting for help. Reang stated, "We laid down arms to rejoin mainstream society, but even after more than 30 years, many surrendered members have not been rehabilitated. Cases against several cadres are also still pending."

The groups had previously sent a nine-point list of demands to Chief Minister Manik Saha. They gave the state government one week to act. Following a late-night meeting on Tuesday, leaders agreed to pause the protest. They are now waiting for the government to follow through on its promises.
