Agartala: Courts across Tripura have delivered verdicts in three separate criminal cases, resulting in prison sentences ranging from a decade to life. The convictions cover offenses including drug trafficking, child sexual abuse, and murder.

In North Tripura, the Special Judge’s Court in Dharmanagar sentenced Sijarul SK to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for his role in a drug smuggling operation. Police intercepted the West Bengal resident at the Churaibari Naka Gate in November 2022. Officers discovered 560.6 kg of ganja hidden inside and on the roof of his truck. In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh, noting that failure to pay would lead to two additional years of incarceration.

The Gomati district court issued a 20-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to Adhir Chandra Das under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Following a 2021 complaint at the R.K. Pur Women Police Station, the court also found him guilty of criminal intimidation. He received a concurrent one-year sentence for that charge and was ordered to pay a total of Rs 51,000 in fines.

In Dhalai district, the Additional District Judge’s Court sentenced 26-year-old Jhuma Marar to life imprisonment for killing her husband. The victim, 27-year-old Mohan Marar, was discovered dead in his bed on May 28, 2023. According to police, the victim's father alleged that "Jhuma Marar had strangled her husband" after noticing a dark mark on the body. Following an investigation, the local police submitted a chargesheet in late 2023, leading to her conviction and a Rs 5,000 fine.
