Agartala: Tripura cabinet ministers just shut the door on private practice for doctors at Agartala Government Medical College and GB Pant Hospital. Staffers get a 20 percent pay bump instead. The raise comes as a non-practising allowance attached to their basic salary.
Cabinet spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury confirmed the news Tuesday. He noted that the state government plans to issue an official notification soon. The order covers roughly 350 medical officers and faculty members. Chowdhury said, "Faculty members and medical officers working in AGMC and GB Pant Hospital will not be able to engage in private practice. They will receive a 20 per cent increase on their basic pay as a non-practising allowance."
The health secretary pushed the proposal through during Monday's cabinet meeting. Chief Minister Manik Saha and his team consulted with various doctor groups before the final vote. Some officials previously delayed the measure, but it now has full cabinet approval.
Doctors must fall in line. The government made it clear that those who refuse the terms can leave their jobs. "This decision will have a binding effect and those who are not willing to comply with it may voluntarily quit their service," Chowdhury added. Separately, the state approved hiring 186 Junior Multi-Tasking Officers. The Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura will handle that search for the Group C positions.
