Agartala: Tripura is safe from drought. State Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath confirmed the news Tuesday following a federal review meeting. Recent monsoon patterns brought enough water to secure the growing season. The state recorded roughly 1,000 millimeters of rain so far. This hit is 8 percent higher than the typical annual average.

Nath spoke after a virtual session led by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Officials discussed national food security and El Nino concerns during the call. Nath told reporters, "More than 1,000 millimetres of rainfall has already been recorded in the state. Therefore, there is no immediate risk of drought."

The department remains on guard. Officials have stocked up on quality seeds, chemical fertilizers, and sprayers for the Kharif season. They already handed out drought-resistant crop seeds to local growers as a precaution. Teams are keeping irrigation systems ready for immediate use if a dry spell hits. Farmers are currently focused on collective planting of paddy, pulses, and oilseeds to keep production steady.
