Guwahati: The Tinsukia district administration has rolled out a new fleet of e-rickshaws to manage waste collection across four gram panchayats in the Margherita Development Block. This initiative, launched under the Swachh Bharat Mission, aims to bolster rural sanitation efforts by promoting sustainable waste reduction and recycling practices.

Margherita Co-District Commissioner Rahul Doley inaugurated the vehicles at the Makum Pather Gaon Panchayat. The program extends to Jagun, Kumarpatty, and Puranipukhuri, providing these regions with more efficient tools for local waste collection and environmental management.

The District Water and Sanitation Mission assigned the operation of these e-rickshaws to four local self-help groups. The Hopun VO, Sikha, Surabhi, and Mohini self-help groups now oversee the collection process within their respective panchayats.

During the launch, Doley emphasized the importance of local involvement in these environmental efforts. He stated, "community participation would be crucial to the success of sustainable waste management initiatives and the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission."
