Three Dead After Landslide Hits Arunachal Pradesh Road

Itanagar: A landslide on the Migging-Tuting Road in the Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh killed three people and left two others seriously injured on Wednesday. Local MLA Alo Libang confirmed that the victims included local BJP leader Ottu Nitik, his wife Bami Nitik, and his sister-in-law Olek Tali.

The two survivors, identified as Jesek Jongkey and Ponung Nitik, were transported to Yingkiong for urgent medical treatment. A large-scale recovery effort followed the accident, led by Tuting Additional Deputy Commissioner Pandov Perme and the Migging Circle Officer.

The rescue mission involved multiple units from the Indian Army, including the 5 DOGRA, 117 Engineer Regiment, 18 Sikh, 11 Sikh, 1811 Medium Regiment, and 17 Mahar Regiment. Personnel from the 61 Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police also supported local authorities in the operation.

Government officials announced that the families of the deceased will receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each. Financial assistance will also cover the medical expenses of the injured survivors. Warning the public of the ongoing danger, Libang stated, "MLA Alo Libang has urged the public to refrain from travelling beyond Yingkiong towards Tuting, citing frequent landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the region."
