Imphal: The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) is demanding an immediate, state-wide disarmament of all armed groups. The group wants the Centre and state government to strip weapons from every faction, including those under the Suspension of Operations framework. They argue that the current strategy of empty promises is dead. The time for assurances and announcements has passed.
TIM cited a string of recent bloodletting. On September 13, four villagers died in Tollen and Longpi. Two days later, gunmen killed Kimboi Singson and Chonga Sitlhou at Leisang village. The organization says these attacks prove the government is failing to protect the public. They also pointed to the May 13, 2026, murders of three pastors in Kangpokpi district. TIM claims that area is controlled by Kuki groups like the KRA and KNF, yet no arrests followed.
Questions remain about the massive security presence in Manipur. Civilians are still dying despite the heavy deployment. TIM wants to know why authorities cannot stop the violence or the political exploitation of ethnic divisions. They believe groups refusing to surrender arms must face anti-terror laws. If order remains elusive, they say the Centre should invoke President’s Rule.
Federal oversight has also come under fire. TIM criticized the transfer of cases to the National Investigation Agency, fearing that momentum simply vanishes once the agency takes over. The organization insists that these legal moves must produce arrests and convictions rather than disappearing from public view. They want the state to dismantle or ban all armed factions operating near civilian hubs, arguing that only full accountability will bring stability back to the region.
