Imphal: Congress MLA Kangujam Ranjit hammered the Manipur government today for its inability to curb the violence that has ravaged the state since May 3, 2023. He spoke at a Voice of the Voiceless event held at Ima Thumkhong Lairembi Harao Shanglen in Waikhong Keithel. Local groups including the Sugnu Block Congress Committee, Waikhong Ningthoumanai Congress Mahila, and the Youth Front Waikhong organized the meeting.
Ranjit did not mince words. He called the current state of affairs one of the most unfortunate and distressing phases in Manipur history. The ongoing conflict has displaced thousands from their ancestral homes and left a trail of death and destruction.
The MLA questioned why a 60-member Legislative Assembly cannot restore order. He argued that the current political leadership puts community interests above the public good. He challenged the transition from President Rule to the current administration, asking why the government failed to provide a real roadmap for peace. He also attacked the Council of Ministers, specifically citing the distribution of portfolios and political arrangements involving Deputy Chief Ministers. He claimed these moves only widen communal divides.
Ranjit also pointed to internal friction regarding Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen. He asked how a fractured leadership could ever solve the conflict. He finished by demanding decisive action from the state, insisting that democracy requires more than just winning elections while lives and property remain under constant threat.
