Sushmita Dev Returns to Silchar Following Rajya Sabha Entry

Guwahati: Sushmita Dev touched down at Kumbhirgram Airport on July 18. This was her first trip home to Silchar since joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. Local party leaders and supporters greeted her with a warm welcome. She currently holds a Rajya Sabha seat representing West Bengal.

Dev spent years in the Trinamool Congress before making the switch. She credited the BJP central leadership for their faith in her political future. "I had no conditions when I decided to leave the Trinamool Congress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah trusted me and gave me the opportunity to serve as a Rajya Sabha member. It is a matter of great honour and privilege for me," she said.

Her focus now shifts to legislative work. She plans to represent her constituents in West Bengal. She also promised to drive progress throughout Assam. Dev specifically noted that she remains dedicated to the people of the Barak Valley. She expressed deep gratitude for the new role provided by the party.
