State BJP Vice President Demands Pay for GHADC Employees

Shillong: State BJP vice president Bernard N. Marak lashed out at the NPP-led government on Saturday. He demanded the District Council Affairs Department release pending salaries for Garo Hills Autonomous District Council employees immediately. These workers have suffered through months of financial ruin.

Marak, who also serves as a Tura MDC, claims the executive committee extended its tenure on false promises. They swore to reform the body and clear salary backlogs. “However, those commitments have remained unfulfilled, leaving employees and their families to endure prolonged financial hardship,” Marak said.

He questioned the real impact of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s reform plans. The BJP leader alleged the state is using financial control to tighten its grip on the council instead of building its autonomy. He argued this trend ignores the Tripartite Agreement and protections under the Sixth Schedule.

The criticism extended to the unchecked movement of coal and boulders. Marak highlighted reports of fake challans and trucks operating without valid transit permits. He pushed the executive committee to follow through on a resolution to verify all transport documents. To date, authorities have failed to issue a single implementation order to stop the illegal activity.

Marak wants an independent probe into the missing revenue. He maintains the people of Garo Hills need a government that trades empty promises for tangible, honest results.
