Shillong: Meghalaya BJP vice president Bernard N Marak accused the state government of wasting central funds meant for Garo Hills education. He claims these projects simply vanished into a black hole of poor management. Marak, also a Tura MDC, says education in the region is in shambles despite steady cash flow from New Delhi.
He pointed to the 2014 Tripartite Agreement between the Centre, the state, and the former Achik National Volunteer Council. This peace pact aimed to boost local development by building community colleges in every block and constituency. It never happened. "Every district in Garo Hills still has only one government college, resulting in limited seats and inadequate facilities for our students," Marak said.
Technical institutions and polytechnics remain incomplete or exist only on paper. The region suffers from a lack of qualified faculty, crumbling school buildings, and packed classrooms. Marak blames 12 years of state inaction for spiking youth unemployment, school dropouts, and drug addiction. He wants the MDA government to finish pending work and pay out scholarships immediately.
The party also defended the Centre regarding the NEET paper leak. They support Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his zero-tolerance policy. The BJP highlighted the arrest of 13 suspects and the new Public Examinations Act as proof of progress. They claim the Centre is now protecting students with better digital security and transparent testing.
