Sikkim Rapper Attacked in Arunachal Pradesh Road Ambush

Itanagar: Sikkim rapper Ugen Namgyal Bhutia, known as UNB, took a beating from a mob on Monday evening. Around 6 pm, the musician and his team drove toward Roing after a concert in Anini. Two vehicles stalked them for an hour. The strangers trapped them on an isolated stretch near Tiwari Gaon in the Lower Dibang Valley district.

Eight to 10 men smashed the car with a rod. They jumped the rapper and his manager, leaving UNB with head injuries, facial cuts, and a swollen eye. The thugs covered their license plates with mud to hide their tracks. They only stopped when a truck rolled up, forcing them to flee. The victims filed a report at the Roing Police Station at 7.50 pm, delayed by a total lack of mobile signals in the hills.

Officer-in-Charge Taniya Uli led investigators back to the scene Tuesday. Cops are hunting for the suspects but progress is slow. Uli noted that "the isolated location, absence of eyewitnesses and poor network connectivity" were posing challenges to the probe. Police registered a case for criminal intimidation and assault.

This marks the second attack on a creative figure in the state this month. On September 16, filmmaker Dominic Sangma was assaulted near the FTII campus in Jote. Sangma tried to help students facing harassment before two men attacked him, a guard, and four others. Police arrested Techi Nanu and Techi Sanjay for that incident.
