Sikkim Launches Statewide Repairs to Fix Monsoon Road Destruction

Gangtok: Sikkim launched a statewide mission on Monday, September 21, to survey the heavy destruction left by recent monsoons. Officials received direct orders to push restoration work forward immediately to keep vital links open. Roads and Bridges Minister N.B. Dahal took to the field to assess the damage himself.

Dahal walked several broken stretches near Rimbi in the Yuksam-Tashiding constituency. A landslide wiped out a major section of the road connecting Rimbi to Khechopalri. Repair crews will break ground at the Rimbi site on Tuesday. Work starts fast.

Dahal put the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited and local contractors on notice. He demanded they speed up efforts to cut down on travel headaches for commuters. State officials confirmed the goal is simple: "identify monsoon-related damage and expedite restoration of affected road links."
