Shillong Hospital Holds Mock Drill to Test Disaster Preparedness

Shillong: The District Disaster Management Authority recently joined forces with the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute and Bethany Hospital to host a simulated emergency drill. The exercise focused on testing evacuation procedures and response protocols during earthquake and fire scenarios.

Hospital staff members participated in the safety exercise to evaluate how effectively they coordinate with external response agencies during a crisis. The event served as a practical assessment of the facility's current ability to handle large scale emergencies.

Prior to the simulation, the hospital hosted a training session on June 4 for medical and support personnel. Experts from local agencies, including Civil Defence and Home Guards and Fire and Emergency Services, provided guidance on safety protocols. The organizers noted that the drill "allowed authorities to assess current preparedness levels and strengthen the hospital’s capacity to handle real-time emergencies effectively."
