Shillong: Construction crews are finishing the Rs 216-crore Shillong Business-cum-Tourism Centre. The project is 99% complete. Work has dragged on for years. This facility sits at the city's main transit point. It promises to clear the choked streets of Police Bazar.
Badri Rai and Company built the complex. They installed a multi-level parking garage to handle hundreds of cars. This should kill the gridlock at Khyndai Lad, where barricades blocked traffic for five years. Officials have yet to set a firm opening date. They want it running soon.
The state is shifting its economic engine into the building. It will host the offices of PRIME and the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society. The design leans on modern tech. It features elevators, escalators, and energy-efficient systems like rainwater harvesting. A prefabricated skywalk links the buildings together.
The center also includes a shopping area for local brands, a food court, and a tourism hub. A convention center will host trade fairs and cultural events. Urban Affairs department sources note that the site is now in the final touch phase. It marks a push to fix how the government uses prime real estate.
