Shamator Farmers Receive New Agricultural Machinery

Kohima: Shamator hosted a farm machinery distribution event on July 24 at the District Agriculture Office. The program fell under the Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanization, known as SMAM, Component 8, for the 2026 to 2027 cycle.

EAC Mekato served as the special guest for the day. He pushed for a shift in perspective regarding these tools. Mekato said, "farm machinery distributed under SMAM should be viewed not merely as government assistance but as an opportunity to transform agriculture into a sustainable enterprise."

The event drew a crowd of farmers and local officials. Mekato challenged the attendees to adopt innovative farming habits. He argued that modern equipment makes the trade appealing to rural youth and might curb migration. He tied this effort to the broader Viksit Bharat 2047 goal. He wants farmers to drive nation building rather than just collect handouts.

District Agriculture Officer L. Kivika Chophi chaired the proceedings. The event opened with an invocation by Tsuponshe. Tsulun AI, the Programme Officer, delivered a technical note on the SMAM guidelines. Beneficiaries also took the stage to offer comments before the actual handover of the equipment.

The day wrapped up with a vote of thanks from SDAO Alex Meyese. Officials now expect the recipients to show real results. Success in the field will dictate future investment levels for the Shamator district.
