Itanagar: Seven young men from the Mising community in Assam have been rescued from a construction site in Roing, Arunachal Pradesh, following reports of severe abuse. The workers, all from the Sadiya subdivision of Tinsukia district, had initially traveled to the area seeking employment opportunities.

The rescue operation took place on Monday after members of the Takam Mising Porin Kebang and the Mising Mimag Kebang intervened. Families of the workers had reached out to these community organizations after hearing reports of mistreatment at a site linked to the Lower Dibang Hydroelectric Project. The workers were reportedly recruited by an individual identified as Nigam Doley with promises of gainful work.

Once at the site, the men claimed they were held against their will and subjected to violence. One of the rescued workers alleged that they had gone without food for two days and were assaulted when they attempted to leave the site and return home. Rescue team members observed visible injuries on the victims, including marks consistent with being struck by iron rods.

The youths are now safe, but community leaders are demanding a full investigation into the recruitment practices and the alleged exploitation. Authorities are being urged to look into the working conditions and the individuals responsible for the abuse.
