Security Forces Arrest PREPAK Captain in Thoubal

Imphal: Security forces captured an active militant in Manipur on July 21. They nabbed the man during a search in the Lilong Alia Lamkhai area of Thoubal district. The suspect belongs to the proscribed PREPAK (Progressive) faction. He carries several aliases, including S/S Captain Lourembam Kumar Meitei, Kanto, Naobi, and Abung.

The 43-year-old resides at Haobam Marak Lourem Leikai in the Imphal West district. Officials operated under the jurisdiction of the Lilong Police Station. They found a .32 calibre pistol and a magazine on the suspect during the arrest. The seized gear and the militant are now in custody for legal processing.

The state is currently pushing the Disarm for Peace initiative. Forces are ramping up counter-insurgency work to clean up illegal weapons. According to officials, the operation is part of an effort to "intensify counter-insurgency operations and efforts to recover illegal arms across the state."
