Imphal: Residents of Sahamphung Block have given the government 10 days to fix a broken employment scheme and restore mobile service. The Sahamphung VB-GRAMG Association issued the warning during a press conference at Sentinel College in Ukhrul on September 29. Failure to act will trigger mass protests across the Kamjong region.
The trouble stems from the National Mobile Monitoring System. This tool requires workers to log attendance electronically twice every day. Remote villages lack the cellular coverage to meet these demands. Association General Secretary Thotrinchan Hungyo stated, "The digital system, though intended to improve transparency, has effectively excluded workers who lack dependable network access."
Job-card holders in Chammu H Kaphung, Gampal, Kachouphung K, Kachouphung T, Kashung, Khayang, K. Phungtha, Langcha, Langkhe, Matiyang, and Roni remain empty-handed. Association Chairman Aleng Shaiza reported that workers have not received wages for the current financial year. Funds for wages and materials often face delays of up to two years, leaving households in financial ruin.
Poor tower performance has crippled more than just job schemes. It gutted access to banking, emergency services, and education. The association wants a full technical inspection of the area's cellular infrastructure immediately. They demand the timely and transparent payment of all outstanding funds to ensure the survival of these border communities.
