Imphal: Seventy-one-year-old Hemjang Haokip vanished Saturday after a fire leveled his field hut near Leimakhong. The shelter stood in the Saitu assembly constituency within Manipur's Kangpokpi district. Heavy rain kept locals away from their crops all day. Nobody found the wreckage until late Saturday evening.

Haokip, a resident of Khunkho Kuki village, often slept at the site. Villagers checked the burned ruins but failed to find him. Search efforts stalled as darkness fell. Tensions in the region forced them to quit before night took over. Security risks halted the mission.

The Kuki Youth Organisation (KYO), Leimakhong Block, stepped in with a formal statement. They claim NSCN-IM cadres seized Haokip at 3:00 PM. The group wants the man back safe. They are demanding that police and security forces start a massive investigation immediately. The KYO says officials must "hold the perpetrators accountable for both the abduction and the arson."
