Kohima: The NSCN (I-M) rejected claims of its involvement in the May 13, 2026, ambush near Kotzim in the Kangpokpi district. Three Thadou Baptist Association India (TBAI) church leaders died in that attack. The group dismissed reports circulating on social media as baseless fabrications. They claimed they had no role in the violence against the religious leaders.
The organization stated these rumors aim to stir communal tension and derail ongoing investigations. It specifically denied that a man named MS Chekneichung Chiru, also known as Achung, belongs to their ranks. They labeled the association of this name with their group as defamatory. The outfit expressed sympathy for the grieving families. They fully support the National Investigation Agency as it takes over the probe to find the killers.
The group warned against spreading unverified stories. They called on the public and media to check facts before posting. The NSCN (I-M) declared, "The group said that it would not tolerate further attempts to malign its image through fake news and reserves the right to counter such propaganda with all necessary measures." They demand a transparent investigation to secure justice for the victims.
