Imphal: The Kuki CSO Working Committee in Ukhrul halted its planned counter blockade. The freeze lasts until July 26, 2026. This move walks back an order issued in a July 22 press release. Leaders from Kuki-Zo civil society groups in Ukhrul and Kangpokpi are running the negotiations.
These groups met in Kangpokpi on July 24. They want a democratic fix to the local economic crisis. A second round of talks with government authorities is on the books. Both sides hope to reach a just, honourable and lasting settlement.
Dialogue is their first choice. Still, the committee warned that this pause does not signal defeat. The committee stated, "if the talks fail to produce a tangible and favourable outcome, the Kuki-Zo civil society organisations would have no option but to intensify democratic agitations to protect the rights and interests of their people." Future protests depend on the success of these pending discussions.
