Shillong: Sacred Heart Secondary School secured the Centenary Cup title on Friday after a hard-fought final against St Joseph’s School, Umden. The tournament, held in Marmain, Meghalaya, concluded with a penalty shootout after both teams failed to score during regulation time.
The event was organised by the host school to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Sisters of the Destitute, a congregation dedicated to education, healthcare, and social welfare. Six schools participated in the competition, including St Mary’s School, St Francis de Sales School, and St Peter’s Secondary School.
The final match drew large crowds of parents, teachers, and local residents. While the game remained scoreless, the intense defensive play and tactical maneuvers kept spectators engaged throughout the match. Players from both sides earned praise for their resilience and commitment during the final moments.
Following the win, Sister Mercylet SD, the principal of Sacred Heart Secondary School, thanked the participants and volunteers. She noted that the tournament aimed to promote teamwork, discipline, and unity among students, aligning with the mission of the Sisters of the Destitute to support holistic development.
