Kohima: The Rengma Nthenyi Literature Board opened the Rengma Nthenyi Academy on August 25. The ceremony took place at the NRCF Building in Chunlikha. Ar Jwenga Seb, MLA and Tseminyu DPDB Chairman, attended as the special guest. He urged attendees to value their heritage. "My dialect, my identity," Seb told the crowd.
Strong language skills build a foundation for life. Mastering one's mother tongue helps people learn English, Hindi, and Nagamese with ease. The Rengma people use two main dialects, Nzonkhwen and Nthenyi. The government officially recognized the Nthenyi language in 2017.
Khinyi Woch, Chairman of the Literature Board, detailed the long road to creating this school. The academy will teach future generations how to read and write the language. Officials also released the new academy prospectus during the event. Shelepfü Kath received a Proficiency Certificate for his work on Nthenyi literature. Rev Tusaya Kath led the dedicatory prayer while the Kithagha Union Baptist Church Youth Ministry Choir performed a special song.
