Rajmata Express Wins Assam Champupara Boat Race

Guwahati: Rajmata Express from Jaukatadia rowed to victory at the ninth annual Champupara boat race. The contest took place on the Kolohi River in the Kamrup district of Assam. Thousands of fans lined the riverbanks for the two-day event. It was a massive turnout.

The Champupara Yuva Sangha organized the race within the Samaria Assembly constituency. Thirteen boats from across the state competed for the title. Sahina Express took second place. Ma Haowa Express and Allah Bharosa Express grabbed third and fourth, respectively.

Winners walked away with cash prizes. Rajmata Express claimed Rs 77,777 and a trophy. The runner-up earned Rs 55,555. Third and fourth place teams received Rs 22,222 and Rs 11,111 along with their awards.

Samaria MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed attended the finals. He praised the organizers for keeping the local racing culture alive. Ahmed noted, "I call for boat races to be organised not only across Assam but also at the Northeast and national levels to promote and preserve the traditional sport for future generations."

Local officials maintained order throughout the matches. Boko-Chaygaon Co-District Superintendent of Police Jankishore Gogoi and Goroimari Revenue Circle Officer Kashyabi Kashyap watched the proceedings. Officers from Boko, Goroimari, and Jorshimuli provided security. The competition continues to serve as a vital link to the riverine traditions of the region.
