Agartala: Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma blasted Tripura politics on Friday. He claimed most leaders trade values for proximity to power. He singled out the CPI(M) as the only party keeping any discipline. The BJP and Congress lack consistent principles. Pradyot posted a video message online. It painted a bleak picture of state politics driven by resentment rather than public interest.
Leaders jump between parties when national winds change. Pradyot warned that today’s BJP figures could easily defect to the CPI(M) if the tides turn at the Centre. He admitted his own house is not in order. He expressed frustration with corruption inside the TTAADC administration. Pradyot tried to fix things but failed. He noted that Tripura’s youth feel left behind compared to progress in cities like Guwahati, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi.
Parties exploit this frustration. They treat residents like vote banks instead of fixing schools, roads, healthcare, tribal rights, and electricity. Pradyot urged his rivals to work together for the state. A Tipra Motha plenary session will happen next month following the Village Committee elections. With the Tripura Accord implementation looming, he hinted he might quit active politics. “I will remain in Tripura, I will remain with the people. But when I am in the party, balancing between the organisation and the people sometimes causes me pain,” he said.
He plans to step back to speak freely against wrongdoing. He pointed to his history in Bru areas, Dumboor, Madhabbari, and Agartala to prove he never sought personal gain. He also mocked the hypocrisy of political birthday greetings. Critics attacked him for wishing Prime Minister Modi well, yet stayed silent when Rahul Gandhi did the same. He faced similar grief for sending birthday wishes to Rahul Gandhi. He remains defiant. “My power is not Tipra Motha. My power is being your Bubagra, someone you trust and love.”
