Imphal: Authorities intercepted 519 bottles of Indian-made Foreign Liquor at Imphal International Airport on August 5. Acting on intel from the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur, airport police detained 15 passengers arriving on an IndiGo flight from Delhi. The group included nine men and six women. Officials found the contraband hidden across 79 to 90 pieces of luggage. Brands identified in the haul include Jack Daniel’s, Jameson, Johnnie Walker, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Monkey Shoulder, Glenmorangie, Black Label, Absolut, Smirnoff, and Jacob’s Creek.

DESAM Secretary Ningthoukhongjam Nobinchandra questioned the suspects' intent, noting, "The volume of the consignment indicated it was meant for commercial distribution rather than individual use." The detainees and the seized cargo were transferred to the Singjamei Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Security forces expanded their sweep against illegal alcohol across the state on the same day. Police in Kakching district arrested Leimapokpam Olin Meitei, 34, after finding 290 litres of locally brewed DIC liquor in his Maruti Alto. Officers in the Patsoi area seized 310 litres of DIC liquor, while forces in Nambol confiscated another 98 litres. In a separate stop at Kakching Lamkhai, police recovered 429 litres of DIC liquor hidden in 40 plastic packages inside a Maruti Swift. Two men, Hijam Yohenba Singh, 25, and Ningthoujam Joykumar Singh, 44, were arrested in that incident.

Additionally, authorities apprehended a 27-year-old militant on August 5. Thokchom Daimond Meitei, an active member of the banned RPF/PLA, was picked up in the Imphal West district.
