Imphal: Members of the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) seized nearly 60 bags of foreign liquor at Imphal International Airport on Wednesday. The haul arrived on an IndiGo flight from Delhi. Ten people are now in police custody following the incident.

DESAM launched the operation after receiving credible intelligence about the shipment. The group intercepted the travelers as they moved through the terminal. They quickly turned the suspects and the luggage over to the police for formal investigation.

DESAM Secretary for Anti-Drug Abuse, Ningthoukhongjam Nobinchandra, led the effort. He spoke to reporters at the scene about the scope of the discovery. "After receiving reliable information, our members carried out a verification at the airport and recovered around 60 bags filled with foreign liquor. It is unfortunate that such consignments continue to find their way into the state," Nobinchandra said.

The suspects claimed the cargo was for personal use. Nobinchandra dismissed that explanation immediately. He argued the sheer volume of the goods points toward a commercial distribution operation. He also noted that others involved in the transport likely stayed inside the airport to avoid the student group's checking drive.

Police are currently working to verify the contents of the bags. They are checking for potential violations of state prohibition laws. No official statement has been released by law enforcement as the probe continues.
