Guwahati: Lakhimpur police intercepted a vehicle on Wednesday during a crackdown on illegal cattle smuggling. Officers from the Khelmati Traffic Outpost acted on specific intelligence to stop the transport as it moved from Jonai toward Nagaon.

During the inspection, police found six cattle and buffaloes being carried without valid documentation. Authorities arrested two people at the scene and seized the vehicle used for the transit.

Lakhimpur Police confirmed the operation is part of a wider strategy to combat trafficking. In an official statement, the department noted the action was "carried out on the basis of credible intelligence and forms part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal cattle smuggling and related offences in the district."

The rescued animals are currently in police custody. Investigators are now working to identify the origin and intended destination of the livestock to determine if the suspects are linked to a broader criminal network.
