Police investigate mysterious death of young couple in Shillong

Shillong: Colleagues and friends are mourning the loss of a young couple discovered dead in a roadside shed in Lumsohphoh, Nongthymmai, on Sunday morning. Simanta Hajong, 21, and Prinomi Hajong, 22, were found in a sitting position, leading police to investigate the possibility of partial hanging.

The couple, who were known to be in a stable relationship, worked for the same employer. Prinomi served as an assistant bartender at Alaya Cafe and Bar, while Simanta was employed at Lites n Decor. CCTV footage showed Prinomi leaving the cafe alone shortly after midnight on Sunday, while Simanta had finished his shift at 8 pm the previous evening.

Co-workers described the pair as hardworking and cheerful, noting that neither individual showed signs of distress or conflict before the tragedy. Staff members expressed confusion regarding the circumstances of their deaths, as the couple seemed content in their daily lives. Regarding their demeanor leading up to the incident, one colleague shared, "They were completely normal. They carried out their duties with the same dedication as always. There was nothing unusual in their behaviour."

The bodies were recovered only 50 metres from where the couple worked and lived. Authorities continue to examine the scene as those who knew the couple struggle to understand what led to the sudden loss of two promising lives.
