Gangtok: High-grade steel plates and heavy iron rods worth nearly 1 crore vanished from the Teesta-III Hydel Project in Chungthang. The massive construction site serves a 1,200 MW power station in North Sikkim. It is a major loss.

Police moved fast to find the thieves. They arrested Binod Kumar Bansal in connection with the heist. Investigators believe Bansal worked with a crew to swipe the construction supplies and sell them for a personal payday.

The authorities have now booked the case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023. Officials said, "Binod Kumar Bansal, the primary suspect allegedly worked with others to channel the construction material for private profit." The investigation continues as police hunt for potential accomplices.
