Kohima: Phek police have arrested a driver linked to a hit and run incident that took place on June 13 at Bible Hill Colony. The driver, operating a blue Maruti Celerio, struck two women pedestrians while traveling on the wrong side of the road. One of the victims was pregnant at the time of the collision. Both women were transported to the District Civil Hospital in Phek, where medical staff confirmed their conditions are stable.
The driver fled the scene immediately after the impact, but investigators later discovered the abandoned vehicle near a garage in Zion Colony. A special operation team, supported by the Phek Town Chakhesang Students' Union, successfully tracked down and arrested the suspect. Authorities have registered the incident as Phek PS Case Number 0002/2026.
Legal proceedings are currently underway under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Nagaland Police stated that rash driving causing injury and driving under the influence of alcohol remain serious criminal offenses. Officials reminded the public that the law mandates drivers to provide aid to accident victims, noting that failure to do so results in severe penalties. The police warned that motorists must act responsibly, stating, "Nagaland Police has urged all motorists to drive responsibly and extend immediate help to accident victims, warning that failure to do so attracts strict legal consequences."
