Kohima: The Phom Students' Conference (PSC) shut down the District Child Protection Unit office in Longleng on August 3. They locked the doors. The move stems from chronic staff absenteeism and the office's failure to provide essential services to the community.
An inspection team from the student body checked various government buildings across the district recently. They discovered the DCPU office was empty on more than seven separate occasions. It remained "closed and locked during official working hours."
PSC leaders previously contacted the Head of the Department to demand officials stay at their assigned posts. These requests went ignored. The group noted, "No positive response or visible improvement has been observed to date."
The PSC now demands the DCPU head report to the office within two days to explain the situation. They have also asked higher authorities to launch a formal investigation into the neglect. The students want guaranteed access to child protection services for all residents in Longleng.
