Shillong: More than 100 swimmers dove into the water for the 19th Meghalaya State Swimming Championship. The Meghalaya Swimming Association hosted the event, drawing participants from across the state to compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals. Athletes faced off in various age brackets to test their speed and technique.

The tournament wrapped up with a medal ceremony for the top finishers. PB War Nongbri, Assistant Director of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, attended the final day. He told the crowd that the rising turnout shows the sport is catching fire with the state’s youth. Nongbri said, "The increasing turnout at the state championship reflects the expanding popularity of swimming among young athletes in the state."

These events build a pipeline for the future. They give swimmers the reps they need before heading to regional and national stages. The association plans to keep using the annual meet as a primary way to scout talent and encourage new swimmers to get in the pool.
