Kohima: The NSCN-K (Niki) group grew by 18 members on Wednesday. The recruits left the NSCN (IM) to align with the Niki faction. Among those who switched sides was former NSCN (IM) Executive Steering Committee Member Theja Kire.
The defectors held various high-ranking titles in their previous group, including kilonser, deputy kilonser, tatar, leacy, razou peyu, khapur, and lieutenant. They hail primarily from the Angami and Ao regions. The list of new recruits includes Theja Kire, Roukuadilho Liazietsu, Macho, Neilalie, Sevilie, Zakietoulie, Khrigtouza, Kedokhotso, Kevikielie, Avibou, Dzesavü, Zepulie Thong, Asou, Vizelie Kire, Kenai Kimho, Avizo, Saha, and Imlikumba Kichu.
The Ministry of Information and Publicity stated that the group represents a mix of individuals from Kohima, Piphema, Nachama, Chiephobozou, Sechüma, New Piphema, Botsa, Chiechama, Zumvu, and Mokokchung. The NSCN-K (Niki) claims the shift follows a desire to bolster their political movement. The group insists the move stems from ideological agreement rather than petty grievances. They stated, "The decision of the members to join the NSCN/GPRN was not motivated by ill will or resentment towards any other Naga political group, but was based on their commitment to the political ideology of the NSCN/GPRN and their desire to strengthen the cause of Naga sovereignty."
